Indiana Bridge Pier Wrap
Glass-FRP protection over repaired bridge-pier columns.
Delta Structural Technology completed glass-FRP wrapping of bridge-pier columns for an Indiana DOT project. The scope protected repaired concrete surfaces with a bonded composite system and a UV-resistant finish.

Project challenge
The work package identified twelve columns supporting Pier 2, each approximately two feet in diameter and nine feet high. The protective wrap followed concrete repairs performed by the contractor. Achieving a sound, properly prepared substrate across the full column height was therefore an essential interface between the concrete-repair and wrapping scopes.
Project approach
Delta’s sequence called for mechanical surface preparation, Sika 300 epoxy primer and wet application of Sika Hex 100 G glass fabric. The installation detail included a one-foot overlap. Saturation and hand application were organized to establish bonding while controlling trapped air and voids. A UV-resistant coating completed the composite treatment on the columns.
Delivery and coordination
The Walsh Group was responsible for the preceding concrete repairs, access and any excavation needed to expose the full column height. Delta’s scope included material cutting, a mixing and saturation station, application and daily removal of its construction debris. Planning coordinated those tasks around the repeated column geometry and the availability of the prepared surfaces.
Project significance
This bridge-pier project illustrates a protective composite application over repaired concrete. The work joined substrate preparation, glass reinforcement and an exterior coating in a defined sequence. Delta’s role focused on the installed protection system and its interface with the contractor’s concrete restoration work.
