Expertise in Blast Mitigation
We have participated in the testing of composite fiber for blast and force protection. Through the use of full scale testing in White Sands, New Mexico and simulated blast tests performed at shock-tubes with testing labs in the US we are able to recreate the actual structural damages that occur. Complete designs that can withstand these pressures can now be calculated with real time data from the tests. Retrofitted structures are able to withstand blast pressures up 20 psi @ 130 msec and greater.
In addition to the shock-tube lab tests, we have tested real explosives with large amounts of TNT, ANFO, and ballistics of up to 50 cal on retrofitted walls and slabs. Through simulation of actual blasts, structural engineers have new data never before available to aid in the design of these life saving structures.
Federal Design-Build Projects
Fiber system is also quite effective in strengthening structures to resist progressive collapse. Delta Structural Technology, in conjunction material suppliers and governmental agencies, has successfully completed several federal design-build projects with anti-terrorism and force protection requirements. Petrochemical Refinery Blast Mitigation
A petrochemical refinery had a blast assessment performed to determine the buildings that might be in a blast zone. The report showed that the main control room was in the blast zone and needed to be strengthened.
