Rooftop access and concrete preparation supported CFRP work around additional penetrations at Sam Houston High School.
Delta Structural Technology completed CFRP work for additional penetrations in Phase 1, Area E at Sam Houston High School. The scope connected rooftop access and removal of roofing materials with preparation and reinforcement of the exposed concrete. Crack treatment was conditional on the engineer’s direction, keeping it distinct from the base carbon fiber application.

Project challenge
The reinforcement area needed to be exposed before surface preparation could begin. Roofing removal and clear access to the roof were therefore prerequisites for the composite work. The scope also allowed for crack injection if directed by the engineer, requiring any such repairs to be completed and prepared before the new reinforcement was placed.
Project approach
Delta proposed concrete preparation to the specified profile, inspection, and application of a two-part epoxy system. The carbon fiber was to be installed by wet layup using the specified Simpson fabric and saturant, followed by the final coating step. Where crack injection was required, preparation, port placement, injection, cure, and cleanup would precede the CFRP application. This established a sequence from exposed substrate to reinforced and coated surface.
Delivery and coordination
The contractor’s coordination items included obstruction removal, staging, roof access, and removal of roofing to expose the concrete. Inspection and testing were assigned separately. Those interfaces connected the building-envelope work with the structural application, so the crew could reach and prepare the reinforcement locations before placing the composite system.
Project significance
Sam Houston High School illustrates the practical coordination behind reinforcing areas affected by new penetrations. Roof access and substrate exposure are part of the structural installation plan, while conditional crack repair needs clear engineering direction. The sequence connects each prerequisite with the final composite application.
