TxDOT US 183 and Loop 12 Beam Repair
Bridge beam restoration coordinated with expanded carbon-FRP repair limits.
Delta Structural Technology completed concrete beam repair and carbon-FRP work for the TxDOT US 183 and Loop 12 project. The work required the concrete repair limits and external reinforcement extent to be coordinated as the scope developed.

Project challenge
The project began with repairs identified on TxDOT drawings. Additional work expanded the beam repair beyond the originally noted limits, which also changed the amount and extent of carbon-fiber reinforcement required. The concrete reconstruction and the composite application therefore had to be treated as connected parts of the same repair.
Project approach
The revised scope called for additional carbon FRP extending four feet beyond the new repair limits in each direction. It also included the labor, equipment and materials needed for the enlarged repair area. Delta’s concrete placement role involved pumping ready-mix into the formed beam repair. The external reinforcement extent followed the revised repair geometry rather than the original quantity allowance.
Delivery and coordination
Austin Bridge & Road was responsible for supplying the ready-mix concrete, while Delta’s crew would place it into the formed repair. The coordination plan also provided for continued use of the contractor’s equipment. These arrangements linked concrete supply and access equipment with Delta’s repair activities as the beam scope expanded.
Project significance
The US 183 and Loop 12 work illustrates why the boundary of a concrete repair matters to an externally reinforced solution. Changes in the area being restored can affect the reinforcement coverage beyond that area and the resources needed to complete the work. Delta’s scope combined formed concrete restoration with carbon-FRP installation within a bridge-repair contract.
