811 Main Fitness and Mailroom Beam Strengthening
Flexural beam strengthening at 811 Main, coordinated with interior protection, existing conduit and after-hours access.
Delta Structural Technology completed carbon fiber beam strengthening for the 811 Main fitness and mailroom project in Houston. The fitness-area design called for additional flexural reinforcement at identified beams. The scope for O’Donnell/Snider Construction combined engineering submittals, protection of interior finishes and bonded carbon fiber placement, with work planned for nighttime or other after-hours access.

Project challenge
The reinforcement was located within an existing interior where finished surfaces and attached conduit affected access to the concrete. Preparing a sound bonding surface required removal of existing paint. Protecting nearby walls and floors while exposing and treating the beam surfaces was part of the installation planning, alongside coordination of conduit removal or loosening by others.
Project approach
Delta’s scope included signed and sealed calculations, followed by work-area protection and rolling-scaffold installation. The planned sequence removed paint, profiled the concrete, marked the reinforcement and saturated both the receiving surface and carbon fiber with epoxy. Placement followed the structural drawings for beams LJ1 and LJ12. The flexural strengthening requirement was identified in the engineering scope; optional pull-off testing was to take place only after the specified cure interval.
Delivery and coordination
After-hours working was an explicit planning requirement. The proposed protective enclosure extended beyond the application area and included walls and floors. Conduit adjustments were assigned to others, making coordination necessary before surface preparation. Engineering, access and interior protection therefore had to be resolved together.
Project significance
This project shows how a reinforcement installation can be integrated into a commercial interior improvement. The distinctive considerations were the flexural beam requirement, existing paint and services, finish protection and after-hours planning. Together, those elements define a focused retrofit with practical requirements extending beyond the carbon fiber detail alone.
