Angio Reno
Notch repair and CFRP installation were coordinated as one beam-strengthening sequence for the UHS Angio renovation.
Delta Structural Technology completed beam repair and carbon fiber strengthening for the UHS second-floor Angio renovation. The scope focused on beams 3B-59 and 3B-60 and linked filling existing notches with preparation for a composite strengthening system. The sequence treated restoration of the beam profile as a prerequisite to applying bonded reinforcement.

Project challenge
The beam notches created a preparation issue that had to be resolved before composite installation. A suitable fill material needed to be selected, placed, and allowed to cure. Only then could the concrete be prepared for the carbon fiber system. This made the repair-to-reinforcement transition a central part of the project’s technical planning.
Project approach
Delta’s proposed method began with filling the notches, with material selection assigned to the engineer of record or the appropriate subcontractor. Following cure, hand grinding would establish the specified surface profile. The reinforcement phase involved applying epoxy to the receiving surfaces, saturating the composite material, and installing the carbon fiber. Engineering design, sealed shop drawings, and calculations were included through Garner Consulting Group.
Delivery and coordination
The proposed scope identified inspection before and after composite placement, together with witness panels and pull testing for reporting to the engineer. Third-party testing and inspection remained separate responsibilities. Work areas were expected to involve confined-space conditions, making access and sequencing important alongside the repair material’s cure and the readiness of the bonding surface.
Project significance
The Angio renovation illustrates a strengthening approach in which geometry repair and composite placement are inseparable. The beam must first provide a suitable profile and substrate for the reinforcement. Coordinating material selection, cure, surface preparation, and inspection carries that requirement through the complete installation sequence.
