Childrens IR Beam Strengthening

Underside carbon fiber beam strengthening for Children’s IR, coordinated with nighttime work and healthcare facility requirements.

Project overview

Delta Structural Technology completed carbon fiber strengthening for the Children’s IR project in Dallas. The scope developed for McCarthy Building Companies added structural capacity through reinforcement on the underside of designated concrete members. The installation planning included nighttime work and hospital entry requirements, aligning the structural scope with the healthcare setting.

Project challenge

The engineering drawings identified the members requiring additional capacity, with reinforcement placed at their undersides. Access to those surfaces had to support both concrete preparation and accurate fiber placement. The project also required work at night, introducing a scheduling consideration alongside the physical requirements of the beam-strengthening detail.

Project approach

Delta’s scope included staging, system scaffolding and preparation of the designated concrete beams before application of carbon fiber sheeting. The composite layout followed the project construction drawings and the reinforcement requirement identified on HKS sheet S4.018. System shop drawings and material submittals were included to connect the design with the installed reinforcement. The sequence concentrated on the beam-bottom surfaces identified for additional structural capacity.

Delivery and coordination

The proposal incorporated nighttime work and identified healthcare access requirements for the installation crews. Scaffold installation supported overhead access, while concrete preparation preceded reinforcement placement. McCarthy was the contractor named in the scope. These planning elements connected the structural installation to the project’s working-hour and facility-entry conditions.

Project significance

The Children’s IR project illustrates a defined beam-strengthening scope within a clinical renovation. Its distinguishing feature is the combination of underside carbon fiber placement and nighttime installation planning. The case shows how the design location, access method and facility requirements all contribute to the practical delivery of a composite reinforcement project.
