Memphis Airport Mezzanine Columns
Memphis Airport column strengthening required coordination of engineering approvals and phased access across the mezzanine and lower levels.
Delta Structural Technology completed column strengthening at Memphis Airport, with work planned across the mezzanine and lower levels. The airport’s sequencing requirements made scheduling a central part of the project. Engineering submittals, material procurement and mobilization had to be coordinated with the levels available for construction and the airport’s preferred timing around the holiday period.

Project challenge
The initial plan called for the upper level to proceed first and lower-level work to follow after the holiday rush. Later correspondence refined which levels could be released. This evolving sequence required a clear distinction between approval to prepare submittals and readiness to install at each location. The team needed to coordinate the construction windows without assuming that the whole work area would be available at once.
Project approach
Delta prepared the strengthening proposal and advanced the shop-drawing and submittal package following the airport’s acceptance. The installation planning separated the upper, middle and lower work areas according to their availability. The contractor asked Delta to establish procurement and mobilization lead time after submittal approval, tying the field start to both material readiness and the project’s review process.
Delivery and coordination
Delta worked with Vortex Marine Construction on the sequence and timing of the column repairs. The correspondence documented requests to proceed with the submittals, expedited review and tentative installation dates. As the available work areas changed, the team adjusted its planning around those releases. This coordination was necessary for a strengthening scope spread across several levels in an airport environment.
Project significance
The Memphis project demonstrates the operational side of a structural retrofit. A technically defined column repair still needs an installation sequence that matches the owner’s access constraints. The case is distinguished by the coordination of level-by-level availability, engineering review and mobilization.
