Project challenge
The project’s repair schedule had to align with Garner Consulting Group’s availability for third-party inspection. AMLI’s correspondence requested a later start so that the engineer could inspect the work. This made inspection access and timing part of the construction plan, rather than an activity to arrange after installation.
Project approach
Delta scheduled surface preparation first, followed by a preparation inspection. FRP work followed that initial hold point. The correspondence then placed the reinforcement inspection ahead of painting, so the system could be reviewed before the finish concealed it.
Delivery and coordination
The April 2015 work plan placed inspections between successive construction activities. The prepared concrete was to be inspected before FRP application, followed by a separate reinforcement inspection before painting. Delta coordinated these hold points with the engineer and project team.
Project significance
Planning inspections alongside the field work gave the team defined opportunities to review the substrate and reinforcement before subsequent activities concealed them. Riverside illustrates how quality review can be integrated into the sequence of a column repair.
