Campbells Soup Prego
Concrete restoration and composite strengthening were coordinated with shoring and production-area planning in Campbell Soup’s Prego pit.
Delta Structural Technology completed repair and strengthening work in the Prego pit at Campbell Soup’s Paris facility. The scope combined conventional concrete and reinforcing-steel repair with carbon and glass fiber composites. Beam and column treatments were developed separately, while shoring and access planning connected the structural work with the constraints of the production area.

Project challenge
Corroded or missing reinforcement created a repair need that extended beneath the concrete surface. The proposed beam work required temporary support while reinforcement was removed and replaced, followed by restoration of the beam profile. The strengthening system then depended on suitable concrete preparation and a planned transition from formwork and repair to composite application.

Project approach
Delta’s proposed beam sequence included shoring, removal and resplicing of deficient rebar, custom wood forms, concrete placement, and preparation of the repaired surface. Crack injection preceded multiple layers of carbon FRP for additional capacity and a glass FRP layer for shear and concrete protection. The column scope similarly combined reinforcement repair, forming, concrete restoration, and carbon fiber application. A finish coating was included in the proposed sequence.

Delivery and coordination
The proposal built on a prior engineered pit-beam repair at the facility and called for a crew with Campbell Soup experience. A separate containment option addressed work outside a shutdown, using a supported enclosure and HEPA and negative-air systems around the pit. That option illustrates how access and production constraints were considered alongside the structural repairs.
Project significance
The Prego pit project demonstrates the integration of repair and strengthening. Replacement reinforcement and restored concrete establish the structural substrate; the composite system then addresses the additional reinforcement requirement. Planning the shoring, formwork, preparation, and application together is central to that combined approach.
