Meter Vault 1 Carbon Fiber Reinforcement
Meter-vault carbon fiber installation with coordinated mock-up testing and final adhesion-test preparation.
Delta Structural Technology completed carbon fiber reinforcement at Meter Vault 1, coordinating installation and adhesion-testing activities with MWH Constructors. The project included a mock-up stage before the remainder of the reinforcement work. Subsequent correspondence records installation of the composite system and preparation for final pull-off testing with the independent testing team.

Project challenge
The work required alignment between field installation, curing and the testing process. The mock-up testing sequence was intended to precede the remaining reinforcement installation. Final testing also required preparation and attachment of test dollies, with the method of scoring and bonding the specimens important to obtaining a representative test of the installed system.

Project approach
Delta coordinated the crew’s attendance for the mock-up test and the subsequent reinforcement work. After installation, the team discussed final testing preparation with MWH and Alpha Testing. The technical discussion addressed the adhesive used for test dollies and the need to avoid damaging the composite through heat during specimen preparation. These considerations focused on the test method and did not substitute for the independent laboratory’s final results.

Delivery and coordination
MWH coordinated the owner, engineers, testing agency and site access list. Delta identified representatives to witness the planned tests. When dollies required reapplication, the final testing schedule was adjusted. The correspondence shows testing preparation as an active coordination task after composite installation, with responsibility for specimens and attendance clarified among the participating teams.
Project significance
Meter Vault 1 illustrates quality-control coordination around a bonded reinforcement installation. Its distinctive feature is the progression from a mock-up to installed CFRP and final adhesion-test preparation. The case highlights the need to align specimen preparation, cure conditions, scheduling and witness attendance when organizing independent testing of a composite system.
