Miller Coors
CFRP reinforcement at MillerCoors addressed production-floor strengthening and localized demands around new slab openings.
Delta Structural Technology completed slab strengthening at the MillerCoors brewery in Fort Worth. The 2016 design addressed existing floor areas associated with a new filler and buffer tank and included details for new slab openings. Carbon fiber reinforcement was arranged on both the top and bottom of the slab, with fiber direction and development lengths tied to the structural details.

Project challenge
The floor upgrade required reinforcement in more than one surface and location. The slab carried equipment areas, while openings could interrupt existing reinforcing bars. The strengthening layout therefore needed to account for both the broader slab reinforcement pattern and the localized demands around penetrations. Existing columns and capitals formed part of the geometry shown in the design.
Project approach
Fyfe’s drawings specified Tyfo SCH-41 reinforcement in defined strip patterns at the top and bottom surfaces. The typical opening detail oriented reinforcement in the direction of the cut reinforcing bars and called for development beyond the opening. Preparation notes addressed removal of laitance, exposure of aggregate, dust removal, primer, composite placement and finishing. These requirements linked the reinforcing layout with the prepared concrete substrate.
Delivery and coordination
The drawing set distinguished the top-of-slab plan, bottom-of-slab plan and section details, allowing the different locations to be coordinated as a single package. The material direction, spacing and termination requirements were communicated through those views. Construction planning for such a scope must account for access to both sides of the floor and the relationship between strengthening work and equipment or opening construction.
Project significance
MillerCoors provides an example of targeted reinforcement supporting changes within an existing production floor. The case combines distributed slab strengthening with details around new penetrations. Its technical value lies in matching reinforcement placement to the direction of demand and to the geometry of the existing floor, rather than treating all surface areas alike.
